Why Tasmania - Overview

Tasmania is Australia's most southerly city situated in such beautiful surroundings and settings; it is hard to believe that only a short time in Australia's colonial history that Hobart was once a brutal penal colony.

Hobart snuggled at the base of Mount Wellington along the Derwent River. Hobart today is a city that embraces history and culture. A stunning town surrounded by convict-built architecture, fascinating galleries and museums are just some of the attractions.

Thanks to the deep water harbour, sailing is a popular pastime. Hobart has been hosting the inaugural summer Sydney to Hobart race since 1945, which attracts sailing enthusiasts worldwide and maxi yachts from all around the globe.
